Hello,
I recently purchased a Yamaha YPG-235 and I found how to get MIDI files onto it, so I did just that, but when I did and I go to play the song on the keyboard, it doesn't play anything. Where the four beat arrows are, it stays on the first one and I don't know why. I read somewhere that it was because it had to be a Type 0 MIDI so I used Sonar 8.5 and saved it as a Type 0 but that didn't work either. I tried looking online for other people who had the same problem as me but I couldn't find anything. The manual doesn't say anything either, I read it, a dozen times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I think the Yamaha YPG-235 Keyboard can only play a particular type of Midi File, which is the problem.

A "midi file" (actually known as "Standard MIDI File") is of two types - Type 0 and Type 1.

The song that you are trying to play is probably a 'Type 1' midi file, which your Yamaha YPG-235 keyboard is unable to play.

Search on the Internet for software that can do this conversion between Type 1 and Type 0 midi files.

That should do the trick for your Yamaha YPG-235 Keyboard.

You need what are called "MIDI" cables. Check your keyboard's owners manual to be sure it has MIDI ports. The cable (I bought mine 4 years ago) costs $50 and comes with software to connect your keyboard to your PC's I/O port (be sure you have that too) or game port. Your I/O port is a 9 pin connector on the back of your PC (the game port is usually by the sound card). Unfortunately, some computers are being manufactured without these ports.

the files might be the wrong type or could be corrupt
